The Fragrant Thread of Indian Jasmine
The Fragrant Thread of Indian Jasmine :
Every morning in her small home in Madurai, Raji strings fresh jasmine flowers into
garlands. With nimble fingers and silent prayer, she weaves together scent, memory, and
devotion. These garlands will find their way into temples, weddings, and hair braids of
women who begin their day with jasmine tucked gently behind their ears.
For generations, this quiet ritual has played out across India—in homes, on streets, in
moments of celebration and stillness. Jasmine is more than fragrance. It is comfort. It is
heritage. It is the scent that lingers in memory long after the flowers fade.
In India, Jasmine is a part of everyday life. Known by many names like Mogra, Bela,
Chameli, Juhi, and Malli, it threads through rituals, weddings, festivals, and daily beauty
traditions. Its gentle, intoxicating scent has long been used in garlands, temple offerings, and Ayurvedic remedies for calming the mind and uplifting the spirit.
At ISAK, Jasmine stands for memory, artistry, and the continuation of a tradition that has
lasted centuries.

Rooted in Culture & Craft
India is home to over a dozen distinct varieties of jasmine. From the tiny Mogra buds of
Maharashtra to the heady Malli of Tamil Nadu and the graceful Juhi in North India, Bela in
Uttar Pradesh—each variety has a unique scent profile, blooming season, and cultural use.
This diversity makes India a global treasure chest of jasmine.
At ISAK, we source our Jasmine Sambac from Madurai. This variety is revered for its rich,
creamy floral depth and is often used in fine perfumery for its sensual, elegant aura.
Harvested at dawn—when its aroma is at its peak—each blossom is handled with care and
respect, reflecting the sacredness it holds in Indian households.
Extraction & Yield: A Labor of Love
To produce 1 kg of Jasmine Sambac absolute, it takes around 7 to 8 million handpicked
blossoms. Due to its low yield and labour-intensive process, jasmine is one of the most
precious floral oils in the world.
At ISAK, we use two methods :
Solvent extraction for attars and perfumes, where the floral essence is captured in
wax and refined into absolute.
Deg-Bhapka traditional steam distillation for our alcohol-free attars, preserving the
full-bodied, sensual richness of jasmine.
Two Faces of Jasmine :
Jasmine Grandiflora: Lighter, green-floral. Common in European perfumery.
Jasmine Sambac: Rich, creamy, slightly fruity. Deeply romantic. This is the jasmine
of India.
We choose Sambac—for its sensual warmth and timeless elegance. It balances heritage with luxury beautifully.
