First Rain is a single-note petrichor fragrance. Unblended. Unmasked. Pure geosmin — the natural compound released when rain strikes dry earth — captured through a distillation process that has remained unchanged in our atelier for 170 years.
It does not smell like a fragrance inspired by rain. It smells like rain itself.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE FEELING
Why petrichor moves you.
At the heart of petrichor is a rare natural compound — one of the most emotionally potent substances found in the natural world. Studies show it activates the part of the brain responsible for calm, memory recall, and elevated mood. So sensitive is the human nose to its presence that it can be detected at concentrations smaller than a single drop dissolved across an Olympic swimming pool.
One spray is not just a fragrance experience. It is a neurological one.
THE CRAFT
An ancient process. A modern rarity.
First Rain is made using the Deg & Bhapka method — a traditional hydro-distillation technique originating in Kannauj, perfected over centuries in Lucknow. In this process, the fragrance heart is not extracted from flowers or resins. It is extracted from mitti itself — the very clay that absorbs the scent of the first monsoon.
Each batch is distilled over nearly a month. The clay is sourced, dried, and worked by hand. The process cannot be accelerated, automated, or replicated at scale.
"Production is only possible during the dry months of the year, when the air holds no moisture and the clay blooms with true petrichor. When the season ends, the batch is complete."
This is not a supply constraint. It is a natural contract with the earth.
ON LONGEVITY — A DELIBERATE CHOICE
Purity over projection.
Petrichor is volatile by nature. The geosmin molecule disperses quickly — as it does in the wild. First Rain lasts 4–5 hours on skin, close and intimate, the way rain is experienced: deeply, personally, and fleetingly.
We could extend its longevity with synthetic fixatives. We chose not to. Every aroma-chemical we tested dulled the soul of the fragrance. What remained was a perfume about rain — not rain itself.
First Rain is worn for yourself, not for the room. It is a quiet, grounding presence. Apply it when you need to return to something simple and real.

HOW TO WEAR IT
Apply to pulse points — wrists, inner elbow, base of throat. The warmth of your skin is what activates and diffuses the fragrance. For best results, apply to slightly moisturised skin, which slows evaporation and deepens the experience.
